What is A4 about?

The general objective of the A4 Project is to counter the impunity for all actors involved in the trafficking of human beings, particularly of women and girls for sexual exploitation, and enhance the protection of women/girls victims of sex trafficking through a police-led resilient mechanism at the EU south-eastern border. These efforts will be based on a border-crossing alliance, constructively interconnected with an interregional safety net and benefiting from the exchanged knowledge and good practices among 3 member states, namely Austria, Bulgaria and Greece.

A4 will, throughout the project, involve and target LEA in order to build bespoke tools to more efficiently combat the trafficking of women. The focus on inter-regional as well as inter-agency interaction will ensure that A4 will adequately address the complexity of the issue. A4 guidelines and tool-kits will consider standards of data protection, privacy and social acceptability.

What is A4 doing?

A4 has its activties structured along 4 steps:

1. Developing a grounded Action Plan to be tested in situ, including guiding principles, methodological approaches and clarified procedures for enhancing LEAs’ victim-centred competences for effective cross-border and inter-sectoral investigation.

2. Building a critical mass of LEAs to enhance accountability for the protection of women/girls victims of sex trafficking, at an interregional level.

3. Pilot testing a border-crossing resilient mechanism
against impunity of perpetrators of female victims of sex trafficking.

4. Dissemination of project results to key-professionals and the public alike.
